Library seeks Volunteers

libraryThe town library re-opened after its renovation and expansion this year in March.  It now features 65% more floor space, larger meeting rooms, a local history room, a teen room, and a quiet study room with wi-fi.  While the building has been updated it still maintains its historical features:  its locally quarried granite facade, stained glass windows, and brick fireplaces.  The library is the oldest town building still serving in its original capacity, dedicated in 1895 to serve the town.

The library budget for fiscal 2009, starting today, requires the library to cut their operating budget 6%.  They are reducing staff and replacing them with volunteers.   If you have time for a short term project (graphic design, gardening, carpentry, or computer skills) or if you can commit to 2 hours a week for at least three months, the staff will train you to help in up keep of the reference materials.  Another potential impact of the budget decrease is losing state certification which would cause the ending of the library resource sharing program.  To maintain the program they will need more that $14,233 to meet the minimum requirements.  The library website is taking online monetary donations (link) as well as book, DVD, Music and audiobook donations ( they request you bring these donations to the check out desk during library hours.)
