It is with great sadness that I share with you the news that Robert Melican, our former School Superintendent, passed away yesterday, October 28, 2009. Mr. Melican spent his 36 year educational career in Northborough and Southborough, beginning as a Northborough teacher in 1969, 15 years working at the middle school and retiring as Superintendent of Schools in 2005, a position he held for nine years. As a tribute to him the middle school and a Southborough annual report were dedicated to his name.
Calling hours will be Sunday afternoon, November 1st from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. at O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester. The funeral will be on Monday, November 2nd, with a Mass at 11 A.M. in Christ the King Church, 1092 Pleasant Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
The family asks that flowers be omitted. Bob’s family is in the process of setting up the Robert E. Melican Scholarship. More details about the scholarship will be available later.
