The Northborough Free Library, which has lost five part time staff persons due to budget cuts, will be getting one back through the contribution of the Friends of the Northborough Library, Inc. The library has reluctantly had to give up its five pages. The pages, typically high school students, worked about 8 hours per week returning books to the shelves and performing other necessary tasks to support the professional staff. The Friends of the Library voted October 28 to fund a page position for the rest of fiscal 2010, that is, until June 30, 2010. The Friends group feel strongly that the library is of great importance to the community and its continued smooth operation is critical.
The Friends of the Northborough Library, a 501(c)3 charitable organization, is committed to raising funds and providing volunteers to help the library. It recently acted as the agency entrusted to collect funds raised for the Building Fund during the renovation and expansion of the building at 34 Main Street in Northborough. As a
further help to the library in these financially difficult times, the Friends organization has established a Book Fund which will partially counteract budget cuts by raising funds for new reading materials.
