Northborough has several resources to help residents in need the pantry, heating assistance fund, adopt a family and the NICA voucher system (maybe others I don’t know of…). Northborough Interfaith Clergy Association (NICA) in a collaborative effort of the various religious organizations: Church of the Nativity, First Parish Unitarian-Universalist, St. Bernadette’s, St. Rose of Lima, Trinity Church, Congregation B’nai Shalom in Westborough, or Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Marlborough. Together they contribute, raise funds and administer the voucher system to Northborough residents in emergency situations of need. The Gala held at White Cliffs in November each year is a major fund raiser for the program; individuals and clubs can contribute as well.
Local businesses contribute and accept the vouchers as payment: Lowe’s market for groceries; Shattuck’s Pharmacy for medicine; Gulf Station for gasoline; Northborough Oil for heating oil; Tilz Restaurant for lunch; O’Brien’s for sundries; Econolodge for lodging.
Vouchers are available through NICA churches/congregations to residents of Northborough or those affiliated any of the churches/congregations. A resident may receive vouchers from only one location and only once, this program in not a means of on-going support.
Contact a NICA church/congregation if you wish to contribute to this wonderful resource.
