Frank Tetreault sends a warm hello to Northborough from Kazakhstan. He was a 1964 graduate of Algonquin Regional High School, president of his class, co-captain of football/basketball teams, first student to go overseas with the American Field Service program in 1963, Clark University graduate, …and is now enjoying chilly weather in Kazakhstan, working for Astana Airlines. He recently checked in to say hello and tell you all about what he is doing now:
“I am working in Astana, Kazakhstan as a contract A-320 captain for the national airline, Air Astana. This is my third winter in KZ and the coldest so far. Actually, the temperatures this winter are closer to normal than the past two years. In the photo taken (January 17th), I am standing near the Astana International Airport thermometer at 9:31am with a temperature reading of -33C which converts to -27F. The official airport temperature at that time was -37C or -35F.
My flying career includes 20 years in the US Air Force retiring as a Lt. Colonel in 1989 and 17 years with United Airlines retiring as an A-320 captain at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mandatory retirement age of 60. Other countries changed the mandatory retirement age for airline pilots to 65 in 2006 which allowed me to continue my flying career first in India and then in Kazakhstan. The FAA changed the age to 65 in December 2007.”
Thanks for checking in, Frank, keep warm!
