The Friends of the Northborough Dog Park, formerly known as PWPWP, presented to the Board of Selectmen last night to continue advocacy to build an off leash dog park. The group formed in July of 2008 has the support of 150 dog owners in town to date.
Anthony Ziton of the group indicated their intention to raise the funds to provide the fencing and to be self policing and provide upkeep. Anthony presented several locations the group has been working with the town on, the most viable locations mentioned are: Yellick Park (off Hudson St), Assabet Park (off Gale St) and Mustang Stables.
Each area has obstacles to be over come for the park to come to fruition. Yellick Park is state owned DCR land, which has state imposed restriction leash laws on the property which would need to be repealed. Assabet Park, the favored location of the Friends, has an underutilized portion of the park, but the dog park would share parking facilities with the playground and splash pad. Mustang Stables is the unused parcel of town owned land near Tomblin Hill Road off of Route 20, the area is quite overgrown and would require much more work to get the land to an usable state for a park.
There was no vote sought from the Board of Selectmen at this time. Anthony Ziton indicated the group’s willingness to work with the town to pursue multiple location, in hopes that one location may be worked out.

The FONDP has strong opposition from the residents of the Village at Smith Pond who are the only abutters to the Mustang Stables which has not existed for more than 13 years. We do NOT Want an unregulated, unleashed dog park in our backyards which is detrimental to the safety of our children. We seek immediate termination from the Town of Northborough Selectmen! STOP THIS PARK AND DRIVE TO TUFTS CSVM 10 minutes away and let your dogs loose there.
