State Senator Harriet Chandler, State Representative Harold Naughton, Jr. and State Senator James Eldridge all attended the Board of Selectmen’s meeting yesterday.
Our Selectmen advocated for the town regarding state funding and the following legislation:
Quinn Bill (Police incentive pay), Prevailing Wage Law (with regard to cost of services procurement to renovate Town Hall), Special Education Circuit Breaker program, ARRA Grants (Education Stimulus Program), Chapter 70 Regional School Transportation funding, and the extension to Municipal Workers’ Pension funding schedule.
Also at the 3/8 meeting:
The transfer of the Celtic Tavern’s liquor license to the new owner was denied. The Board considered approving the license with conditions, but ultimately decided to deny the transfer based on the Liquor Agent’s recommendation. Update: Celtic Tavern has the option to continue to operate under the current license owned by Mr. Koury, under his supervision.
The public hearing for the new Town Finance Department also took place. The new department will combine the Assessor’s, Collector’s and Accounting offices. Overall changes in head count include: cut one unfilled part-time Financial Assistant from the Treasurer’s office, reduce Assistant Town Accountant to 30 hour pay week, and promote the Town Assessor/Collector to Finance Director. No public comments were made. Because this change will require a bylaw change, this item will appear on the town warrant.
Also mentioned: the school bus and solid waste contracts currently under consideration may be over the three year limit and thus would require town meeting approval.
Video (VOD) of the meeting is available on the town website.
