Final Blow of Energy as Musicians Perform

by Zenya M.

Jazzy music wafts through the sticky air as people are chatting with friends and crunching down on Music Mix, one of the many treats available at Pops Night, held on June 3rd at Algonquin Regional High School.  The Algonquin Orchestra eagerly waits to play The Sound of Music while the ninth grade Chorale finishes their last piece. Pops Night is an annual event in June that wraps up the concert season for all music groups at Algonquin. The atmosphere is lively and the music selection is fun, with tunes from West Side Story to Lady Gaga’s Telephone and selections from Aladdin. Energy and enthusiasm fill the air as parents, students, and Algonquin alums crowd the gym and some even dance to the music, enjoying the last performances of the year. Old friends and teachers mingle while sipping down cold drinks and snapping pictures of the excited musicians. It is a bittersweet end for the seniors as they play or sing in their final concert at Algonquin, but memories of the night will always remain.

The instrumentalists were conducted by Performing Arts teachers Amy Collins and Eric Vincent, while Katherine Waters lead the choruses.
