Open Space Plan Reviewed

Tonight, the Open Space Committee reviewed their Open Space Plan in an open meeting.  The plan lays out the open space inventory, town demographic and many town resource maps (geography, topography, water resources, flood plains and many others).  The plan will be available on the town site and the open comment period will be held for a week, then the plan will be forwarded to the state for review.

There is over 4,600 acres of open space in town (40% privately held with preservation restrictions, 4% held by non-profits, 31% State owned (aquaduct, Westboro State Hospital area, and Mass Wildlife) and the remaining 25% is town owned (schools, parks, cemeteries, open space, water department etc.)).

The approved plan will be good for 7 years and will enable the town to submit grant applications for open space preservation.
