APPLEFEST 2010 September 10th, 11th & 12th
Dear Northborough Neighbor:
We want to thank everyone who supported and attended our 2009 Applefest. It was a beautiful, sunny weekend with a great parade, street fair and road race. Our other popular events included our Apple Pie Café, Senior Applefest Luncheon, Art In Bloom, Boy Scout Pancake Breakfast, Library Book Sale, American Legion BBQ, Classic Car Show and our first ever Northborough Has Talent Show.
For those new to town, Applefest is an annual town-wide fall celebration of our community, downtown area and Northborough’s agricultural history. Many of our civic, scouting and sports organizations, schools, churches and artisans participate in the parade, street fair and other programs.
Since 1990, Applefest has been a volunteer-run event, relying on donations from our residents and local businesses. We are seeking your support to continue this tradition of fun-filled Applefest activities. Please demonstrate your community spirit with a monetary contribution made payable to Applefest 2010.
We hope you will join us on Applefest weekend. If you have any questions about Applefest or if you
would like to volunteer to help out during the events, please contact me at 508-393-1355 or
michelle@michellegillespie.com.
Thank you in advance for your support,
Michelle Gillespie
Applefest Committee Chairman

Just a reminder to the Applefest Bakers who will be entering the Apple Dessert Bake-Off that there is a category in the contest for “diabetes friendly” desserts. The Diabetes Support Group urges you to submit an entry. Diabetes friendly is easy, leave out the sugar in the recipe or use half the amount called for. You can also use Splenda or Splenda Brown Sugar in place of the sugar if you need to make it sweet. Sometimes just using ripe Mac Apples makes a great no sugar added Apple Pie or Apple Crisp. Add some cinnamon which has been shown to lower blood sugar in people with Type 2 diabetes to make it more “friendly”
Visit the Diabetes Support Group booth (#73) at the Applefest Street Fair and get your tickets to the Diabetes Friendly Luncheon on Tuesday Sept 28 at 12 Noon in the Senior Center.
While you are there try your hand at the “Cut an Apple in half to Cure Diabetes” contest. Money raised will go to the American Diabetes Association for research to cure diabetes. It’s time for a Cure!
You can also get information about diabetes that could save your life.
There are more than 6 million people in the US who have diabetes and don’t know it. Are you one of them?
I hope someone brings in a warm, sweet melling, delicious, Diabetes Friendly, baked Apple Crisp for the Applefes Dessert Bake Off at the Senior Center tomorrow. I will be at the Senior Center for the Applefest Luncheon at 12 noon so I can try it
Thanks!
