Annual Parish Mission to be held at St. Rose of Lima

“Longing for the Holy: Spirituality for Everyday Life” is the topic for the parish mission at St. Rose of Lima Church, 244 W. Main St. (Rt. 20), Northboro.  Mission service and talk will be in the church at 7:00 each night, Sunday, March 27 – Wednesday, March 30.  The mission concludes with the parish family reconciliation service on Wednesday night.  This year’s guest preacher will be Fr. Jason Glover, S.T.L., professor of theology from Gannon University in Erie, PA.  Fr. Glover’s reflections will center on key questions presented to us in the Gospels.  All are welcome.

AVM Concert Reminder!

“Wine, Women, & Song” presented by the Assabet Valley Mastersingers, Dr. Robert Eaton, Artistic Director on Sunday, March 20th, 3:30PM, St. Mark’s School, Southborough.  The concert will feature Carmina Burana by Carl Orff and Neues Liebeslieder Walzer, Op. 65 by Johannes Brahms with the Algonquin Regional High School Concert Choir and Northborough Town-Wide After-School Choir, two pianos, percussion, and soloists Merrycarol Yumi Wadi (Soprano), Arthur Rishi (Tenor), Philip Lima (Baritone) and Judy Yauckoes and Mark Bartlett on piano.  Tickets are available in advance at Shattuck’s Pharmacy.  Support for this program was provided by the Avidia Charitable Foundation and many local Cultural Councils, including Northboroughs, which are supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Fundraiser to Aid a Northborough Resident

A fundraising event cosponsored by the Northborough Lions Club is being held for Jean Perry, Thursday, March 31st from 6:30-9:00 p.m. at the Algonquin High School cafeteria.

A buffet dinner will be served and a live band will perform.  Raffle tickets, gift baskets and more will be available for purchase.  Tickets are $25 each.  If unable to attend, donations can be made at any Sovereign Bank.

Jean’s health issues, her fight with diabetes, heart surgeries and kidney failure have led her to search for an appropriate vehicle to accommodate her.  She is now using a wheelchair due to her latest struggle with Charcot disease in her feet.  Jean wishes to continue to live independently, and having the van will offer her the opportunity to do so.

Men’s Softball League Registration

PULL OUT THE GLOVES, DUST OFF THE CLEATS, IT’S TIME TO “PLAY BALL”!  League play will begin in early May and will end with playoffs in late July. Teams wishing to participate must notify the Rec Dept no later than April 15th; call 393-5034 or email recreation@town.northborough.ma.us. Please indicate team name and contact info for the team’s coach/captain at this time as well, team rosters can be submitted at a later date. Individuals are also welcome to sign up. Teams must have a minimum of 10 but no more than 18.  Payment in full is required at time of team/individual registration.

Ages: 18 and up

Days: games will be on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays, schedule tba

Dates: tba; league play will run early May to late July

Times: 7:30-10:30pm

Cost: $1,000/team

Location: Melican Middle school Softball field

Opening Night 3/17: Children of Eden

Half Staff Notice 3/15

Acting Governor Murray has ordered the American and Commonwealth Flags lowered to half staff from sunrise to sunset on March 15, 2011 in honor of Corporal Frank Buckles, the last surviving American veteran of World War I.
