Local January unemployment numbers won’t be published until March, nationwide unemployment rates per the US Department of Labor showed some improvement, moving from 10% in December to 9.7% in January 2010. Locally December unemployment was 7.9% Data Source: Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (not seasonally adjusted) Northborough’s November unemployment rate continues to show some improvement with rates dropping to 7.1% from 7.4%. September’s 8.4% was the highest rate in the last 20 years. Massachusetts Unemployment was 8% in May and Worcester County was a bit higher at 8.8%, nationwide June over May numbers increased .6% (Source: US Bureau of Labor Statistics, unadjusted for seasonality).
